Rooted in Quality supports smallholder coffee farmers in the Dominican Republic and Haiti to improve their coffee quality and diversify their incomes. We have been working with two partner organisations – Fedecares in the Dominican Republic and Recocarno in Haiti – to deliver this project and improve livelihoods for 5,000 smallholder coffee farmers and their families.
This project engages and empowers smallholder farmers – particularly women and youth – to share their knowledge as they lead this project on the ground. Key activities include establishing demonstration farms where farmers can highlight and share good farming practices with other farmers and supporting entrepreneurial women and youth to develop micro-enterprises that will help them increase household incomes and improve their coffee quality.
This 3-year project will finish in December 2015. As we embark on our final year of this exciting initiative, we are encouraged to see so many farmers sharing lessons learned and innovative farming techniques with their peers, which will continue to improve coffee quality and livelihoods in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
