Our roots lie in the social enterprise Cafédirect, which was set up in 1991 in response to the international coffee crisis and has been a pioneer of the Fairtrade movement ever since. Cafédirect is committed to reinvesting profits into producer organisations and smallholder communities.

In 2009, Cafédirect took a step further to put growers at the heart of this reinvestment process, by establishing a foundation that is owned and led by smallholder producer representatives.  And so the Cafédirect Producers’ Foundation was born!  We are a legally registered charity and operate independently of Cafédirect, although in practice we work together in lots of ways, including sharing an office, and a love for the great tasting tea, coffee and cocoa grown by the smallholders we work with.

We’ve achieved a lot in our short life so far and have got big plans for the future. Read more about the impact of our work.
